School of Humanities

The School of Humanities at Wuhan University of Bioengineering is a key secondary school prioritized for development by our university. It offers undergraduate programs in Chinese Language and Literature and Network and New Media. The school boasts a high-quality faculty led by senior professors with professional titles and supported by mid-career and young teaching staff, with over 40% of faculty holding senior professional titles. Faculty members have achieved remarkable results in research and teaching reform. In the past three years, they have led nearly 20 projects, including those funded by the National Social Science Fund, the Ministry of Educations Humanities and Social Sciences Fund, national first-class courses, humanities and social sciences research projects of the Hubei Provincial Department of Education, and Hubei first-class quality courses. They have won 1 national first prize, 1 provincial first prize, and 1 third prize in various teaching competitions at all levels. Additionally, they have published dozens of papers in academic journals such as CSSCI and authored 3 published works.


The School takes "Literature Carries the Dao, Application Integrates with Learning" as its motto and adheres to the teaching philosophy of "Teaching Students in Accordance with Their Aptitudes, Concise Explanations with Extensive Practice." Its mission is to cultivate high-quality applied talents with a solid foundation in Chinese language and literature, excellent expressive and writing abilities, profound humanistic sentiments, and a spirit of innovative practice. The School attaches great importance to the cultivation of students' comprehensive qualities, including humanistic literacy, writing and applied skills, and entrepreneurial spirit. The "Humanities Series Academic Lectures" hosted by the School have successively invited professors from prestigious institutions such as Wuhan University, Central China Normal University, and South-Central University for Nationalities to deliver lectures. These lectures broaden students' horizons and strengthen their academic awareness.


The School utilizes the distinctive "Meng Jiangnan Sinology Hall" on campus as its teaching venue and comprehensive training platform, supplemented by innovation and entrepreneurship practice platforms such as the New Media Center, a publishing company, and a national-level maker space. Off-campus enterprise practice bases, including Wuhan Weimeng Cultural Technology Co., Ltd. and Huashidai Cultural Media Co., Ltd., provide strong guarantees for students' probation, internships, and research. During the continuous advancement of education and teaching reforms, numerous outstanding student role models have emerged, such as Zhai Wenhui, recipient of the "National Excellent Communist Youth League Member" and "Chinese School Student Self-Improvement Star"; Shi Yurong, a volunteer anti-epidemic model recognized by the Hubei Provincial Charity Federation; Tang Qingjiao, winner of multiple national awards; and school-level "Five-Good Student Pacemakers" Li Xiaodan and Wang Kexin. In recent years, students have won more than 300 awards in provincial and above professional competitions, undertaken 4 national and 13 provincial school student innovation and entrepreneurship training projects, and published over 100 literary works and online novels.

Chinese Language and Literature (Bachelor's Program, Four-year Duration, Awarded Bachelor of Arts Degree)

        Professional Advantages and Characteristics: Chinese Language and Literature is a key-developing major of the university, striving to become an elite program adhering to the standards of "innovation," "refinement," and "distinctiveness." Guided by the teaching philosophy of "Literature Carries the Dao, Application Integrates with Learning," the major follows a ladder-style talent cultivation model for overall design, with a strong emphasis on student capability development.

        Core Professional Courses: Modern Chinese, Ancient Chinese, Introduction to Linguistics, Ancient Chinese Literature, Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature, Foreign Literature, Introduction to Literary Theory, School Writing, Chinese Curriculum and Pedagogy, Introduction to New Media, etc.

        Graduate Employment Fields: Chinese teachers or basic education management roles in primary and secondary schools; New media writing, editing, and operation positions in Party and government organs, enterprises and institutions, and media groups; Literary promotion and document management roles in grassroots government agencies and community offices.


Network and New Media (Bachelor's Program, Four-year Duration, Awarded Bachelor of Arts Degree)

        Professional Advantages and Characteristics: Fully embodying the characteristics of "new liberal arts," this major focuses on cultivating application-oriented talents with competency in new media reporting and editing, as well as new media operation, promotion, and management, in response to market demands.

        Core Professional Courses: Introduction to Journalism, Introduction to Communication Studies, Introduction to Network and New Media, Convergent Journalism, Nonlinear Editing, Fundamentals and Applications of E-Commerce, Web Design and Development, New Media Data Analysis and Application, Digital Multimedia Production, Network Public Opinion Monitoring and Analysis, New Media Product Design and Project Management, etc.

        Graduate Employment Fields: Engaging in new media-related work in news and media industries such as provincial/municipal newspapers, radio stations, television stations, and media groups; Working in the publicity departments of local governments at all levels, Party and government institutions, administrative organs, and enterprises; Serving in government affairs service platforms such as "Mobile Services" and "On-Demand Services," as well as various internet companies.
