School of Chemical and Environmental Engineering
The School of Chemical and Environmental Engineering currently offers two undergraduate majors, Applied Chemistry and Environmental Engineering, as well as a junior college major in Environmental Engineering Technology. The majors of Applied Chemistry and Environmental Engineering are first-class undergraduate majors in Hubei Province. The major of Environmental Engineering has also been approved for the Hubei Province Strategic Emerging (Pillar) Industry Talent Cultivation Plan, the "Professional Comprehensive Reform Pilot" program in general undergraduate universities in Hubei Province, the major authorized for double bachelor's degrees in general higher education institutions in Hubei Province, and the Hubei Province "3+2" Joint Cultivation Pilot Project. Since 2015, the school has been jointly cultivating professional master's degree candidates with Hubei University of Technology.
The school currently has 49 full-time teachers, including 28 professors and associate professors, 12 teachers with doctoral degrees, 1 teaching master in Hubei Province, and 1 talent at the provincial level in Hubei. It has 1 provincial-level teaching team, 2 provincial-level excellent basic teaching organizations, 1 provincial-level scientific and technological innovation team, and 1 teacher Party branch secretary studio of "dual leaders" in universities across the province. In recent years, the school has been approved for 4 National Natural Science Foundation projects, 1 national first-class undergraduate course, 5 provincial first-class undergraduate courses, and more than 30 provincial and municipal teaching and research projects. Teachers have won 2 provincial-level teaching achievement awards, published more than 10 textbooks, published more than 100 high-level papers, and applied for more than 20 invention patents.
The school currently has 1 provincial-level engineering technology center and 1 provincial-level key experimental teaching demonstration center. There are six major laboratories, namely, Basic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Instrumental Analysis (Analysis and Testing Center), Fine Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, and Engineering Virtual Simulation Laboratory. There are more than 790 sets of instruments and equipment, with a total value of over 10 million yuan. It has jointly established internship, practical training, and employment bases with more than 20 enterprises, such as Wuhan Environmental Investment and Development Group Co., Ltd., Pony Testing International Group, and Wuhan GEM Recycling Resources Co., Ltd. It has jointly established the "Characteristic Class for Environmental Protection Operation" and the "Pony Testing Experimental Class" to achieve the integrated cultivation of high-quality applied talents. In the past three years, more than 40 students have been approved for the National College Students Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Program, or have won awards in professional skills competitions and innovation and entrepreneurship competitions at or above the provincial level. One student has been rated as a "Technical Expert in Hubei Province". A large number of graduates have been admitted as master's degree candidates to "Double First-Class" universities such as Wuhan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and Sichuan University. The employment rate of graduates has been maintained above 90%.
School of Food Science and Technology
Guided by the needs of the food industry and rooted in the "holistic health" philosophy, the School of Food Science and Technology establishes a talent cultivation system covering the full food industry chain through university-enterprise collaboration. Its mission is to nurture high-level professionals tailored to the evolving demands of the food sector.
The school offers undergraduate programs in Food Science and Engineering (including three specializations: Food Science and Engineering, Food Quality and Safety, and Culinary and Nutrition Education) and a junior college program in Food Inspection and Testing Technology. Notably, the Food Science and Engineering major is recognized as a Strategic Emerging (Pillar) Industry Major in Hubei Province, an authorized program for dual bachelor’s and second bachelor’s degrees, and a key construction program of the university. The discipline, as part of the "Biology and Modern Agriculture" cluster, was listed as an Advantaged and Characteristic Discipline Cluster during Hubei’s 14th Five-Year Plan period.
The faculty comprises innovative scholars with strong academic credentials and teaching expertise: 22 professors and associate professors, 12 doctoral holders, 1 provincial-level talent, and 1 provincial-level excellent basic teaching organization. Recent research focuses on storage-transportation, deep processing, functional food development of Hubei’s characteristic agricultural products, and modernization of traditional foods. The school has undertaken 20+ provincial/municipal research projects and enterprise collaborations, with 40+ invention patent applications.
Facilities include 9 specialized laboratories (Food Chemistry, Food Technology, Food Microbiology, Analytical Testing, Culinary Arts, Engineering Virtual Simulation, etc.), plus the "University-Enterprise Joint Functional Rice Wine R&D Center" and "Food-Pharmaceutical Resource Utilization Engineering Center," with equipment valued at over ¥8 million.
The school emphasizes competition-driven learning and teaching, having secured 30+ national/provincial innovation and entrepreneurship projects for students, who have won 20+ awards in competitions like the China International College Student Innovation Competition and "Challenge Cup."
With 50+ industry partnerships (COFCO, Yili, Zhejiang Yiming, JDB Wuhan, Qianji Wuhan, Mipopo Hubei, etc.), the school operates specialized training programs (e.g., "Qianji Experimental Class," "JDB Golden Leadership Class") to ensure integrated talent development. Graduates excel in food-pharmaceutical, quarantine, testing, and hospitality sectors, with a 90%+ employment rate. Many pursue advanced studies at top institutions like King’s College London and China Agricultural University.

Environmental Engineering (Undergraduate, four-year program, awarding a Bachelor of Engineering degree, a construction site of first-class undergraduate majors in Hubei Province)
Training Objectives: Cultivate high-quality applied talents who meet the development needs of the environmental protection industry, have a solid theoretical foundation, possess a solid basic knowledge of environmental engineering, and master pollution treatment technology, environmental monitoring technology, and evaluation technology proficiently, as well as the installation and operation management technology of environmental protection facilities. They should be able to engage in the operation management of environmental protection projects, environmental monitoring and evaluation, have outstanding practical abilities, a strong sense of social responsibility, innovative spirit, entrepreneurial awareness, and innovation and entrepreneurship capabilities, and achieve all-round development in terms of morality, intelligence, physique, aesthetics, and labor.
Professional Advantages and Characteristics: This major is a first-class undergraduate major in Hubei Province. The teaching team of environmental engineering has been rated as a teaching team in Hubei Province's colleges and universities, and the environmental engineering teaching and research section has been rated as an excellent basic teaching organization in general undergraduate universities in Hubei Province. Aiming to cultivate high-quality applied talents in the field of environmental protection, through in-depth cooperation with many large environmental protection enterprises inside and outside the province, order classes for university-enterprise cooperation have been set up. The employment rate of graduates has been continuously maintained above 95%.
