In teaching, real projects (such as urban landscape design, rural revitalization construction planning series projects, typical interior engineering cases, and landscape engineering cases) are introduced to cultivate students' professional application abilities and professional ethics. The program highlights the excavation of local culture, the inheritance, development, and education of traditional culture, and combines the research characteristics of teachers to add new artistic charm to Jingchu culture.
Feature 2: Market-Oriented Teaching and Research Synergistic Development Model
The program emphasizes a market-oriented perspective in teaching and innovative teaching reforms. Overseas-educated teachers apply cutting-edge research findings in the professional field to the teaching process, forming a fashionable design team and bringing new teaching ideas. Over the years, the program has organized students to participate in market competitions and workshops, achieving numerous awards in market design competitions.
First, teachers transform relevant content from research projects into teaching content or use it as undergraduate teaching cases or graduation thesis (design) topics. Second, teachers decompose research projects and involve undergraduates in research experiments, cultivating students' innovative thinking through research-oriented and innovative teaching activities. Third, frequent professional market exchanges enhance the teaching team's teaching abilities, and students are exposed to interdisciplinary integration.
Feature 3: “Teaching, Production, and Research” Integrated On- and Off-Campus Training Bases
The program has multiple collaborative education and training bases jointly established with enterprises and industries, where teaching content, teaching methods, teaching plans, and innovative design methods are jointly developed. The bases also promote open and shared practical teaching.
First, the “enterprise-in-school” model collaborates with mainstream design enterprises in Hubei, hiring senior engineers or designers to teach practical courses, guide students in internships, and develop position-specific vocational ability training plans. Innovation and entrepreneurship education is integrated into the program to comprehensively improve the quality of environmental design teaching.
Second, the “school-in-enterprise” model improves on-campus experimental platforms, such as drawing rooms, woodworking rooms, and material rooms, where teachers' studios collaborate with external enterprises on real projects to serve society.
Third, enterprise mentors and engineers provide hands-on practical teaching. Enterprises establish special training scholarships for the program, stimulating students' professional awareness, learning enthusiasm, and precise professional development goals and life planning.
Feature 4: Elite Education and Inclusive Education Combined with a Mentor Studio System
The program implements a “mentor system” for all students, providing personalized education through a “one student, one mentor” model, offering four-year comprehensive academic guidance. In addition to academic guidance, the Environmental Design Department provides each teacher with a professional studio, where teachers and students choose to enter the studio for elite training. The establishment of a studio-assisted practical teaching system shortens the gap between classroom teaching and industry requirements, filling the gaps in classroom teaching. The annual output value of projects involving teachers and students is approximately 3 million yuan.
