Wuhan University of Bioengineering is a full-time ordinary undergraduate university approved by the Ministry of Education. It has passed the Ministry of Education’s undergraduate teaching evaluation in 2012 and the institutional review in 2018. Located in the core area of the Yangtze River New District, Wuhan, Hubei Province, P.R.China. The campus is situated across the Yangtze River from China’s Optical Valley (Optics Valley of China) and is directly accessible via Metro Line 21 (Yangluo). It boasts superior geographical advantages. With lush greenery and beautiful landscapes throughout the year, it was designated as one of Hubei Province’s first “Ecological Garden-Style Universities.” Covering an area of over 1,700 mu and with a total building area of over 800,000 square meters, the university accommodates more than 20,000 full-time students.
The university offers 62 undergraduate and junior college programs covering nine disciplines: science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, education, literature, management, arts, and economics. It also jointly cultivates professional master’s degree students in three categories: agronomy and seed industry, veterinary science, biological engineering and biomedicine. Among its achievements, it holds one National First-class Undergraduate Major, 11 Provincial First-class Undergraduate Majors, and three Provincial “Comprehensive Reform Pilot Programs” for Specialties. These programs form five distinct academic clusters: Biomedicine & Healthcare, Engineering & Technology, Finance & Management, Agriculture & Environment, and Humanities & Arts.
The university prides itself on a faculty led by renowned professors and supported by doctoral researchers. With over 1,100 staff members, including 300+ professors and associate professors, it has received numerous honors, including 24 national and provincial awards (e.g., National Excellent Teacher, Hubei Excellent Teacher, Chutian Teacher Award). Collaborations with over 300 enterprises have led to 37 specialized experimental and internship programs (e.g., Qian Xuesen, an famous scientist, Experimental Class, Jianmin, a well-known pharmaceutical plant, Experimental Class). Students have won 1,700+ awards in national and provincial competitions (600+ at the national level), with postgraduate admission rates exceeding 20% in key majors. It has earned accolades such as “National Pioneer Base for Practical Education and Innovation”, “National Model University for Entrepreneurship and Employment”, and “Hubei Provincial Employment Advanced Collective”.
